Ami is a foundation for the development of work and working lives. We promote human-centric change in labour markets, for example, by providing grants.
The best labour market in The Nordics
The primary purpose of The Ami Foundation is to improve the vitality and competitiveness of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, the opportunities for individuals and work communities to thrive in a changing working life, and the functioning of the region’s labour markets.
We work in five different areas:
- Programme work
- Communications and stakeholder engagement
- Ownership steering activities
- Property portfolio management
- Investment activities
All of our activities are supported by efficient administration and decision-making.
We pledge to take action and support the changing needs of our labour market, for the benefit of us all.
Our work
The Ami Foundation examines the changing competence needs and structures within the labour market, from the perspectives of people, organisations, and the society as a whole.
We’re constantly learning from our experiments, and we want to carry these experiments out in collaboration with others. Municipalities, trade and industry, and educational institutions within the Helsinki Metropolitan Area are our natural collaboration partners, but we are always open to new partnerships. We also move boldly and independently towards our vision ourselves.
What we do

- We bring to light results relating to research, reports, initiatives and experiments through various channels, so that as many as possible might benefit from them.
- We keep in touch with decision makers in order to stay informed, and have an information-based impact on preparatory work.

Our values
Our values are understanding, collaboration, and courage. Understanding is an overarching value for the foundation, which describes how we work, and is visible in our collaborations and in our courage to advance change.
Understanding
We seek to strengthen our understanding of issues that are not yet known to us. We recognise and acknowledge the labour market’s complex problems, and the need to approach them from multiple points of view.
In our work, we lean on science, facts, and experience, and the understanding that stems from them. Incompleteness and critical thinking are the hallmarks of knowledge, and that is why we want to stay open to everything new.
Collaboration
Working together is the cornerstone of our existence. We are cooperative and collaborative. In this way, we also increase our own knowledge of the themes that are important for The Ami Foundation, and contribute to a changing labour market, together with others.
Courage
For us, courage means staying true to our values even when we are facing the new and the unknown. Courage is a force for change that helps us to question the way things are done. We advance the issues that we believe to be right, without fear of failure.
